Neil Bush's Ignite! — Beware!

If you haven't heard anything about the brewing scandal surrounding the ignominious Neil Bush, his educational software company, Ignite!, the fishy Ignite!-earmarked Katrina donations and Ignite!'s eye opening foreign "investors", read this and this.

Josh Marshall over on TPM is reprinting a high school teacher's chance encounter with Neil Bush and his software:
"'Leave that to the eggheads. I failed all this stuff when I was in school.'"
With the Sandra Day post, and now this, maybe I'm letting my personal politics intrude on what is supposed to be a local school venue. So sorry. The national issues do intersect with our world. In this case, privateers on the national stage want to intrude on our schools. So take note of the cautionary tale of Neil Bush's fetid Ignite! boondoggle.

Ick. Turns out my employer, Leapfrog, is indirectly linked to Ignite!. Knowledge Universe is a holding company that started / incubated Leapfrog. Turns out they are among the list of Ignite! investors. Pretty sordid list to be part of.

That whole bunch seem to be in a degrees-of-separation game. I'm sure you'll find Bookie of Virtues Bill Bennett right in there too. I'm still pondering this series of links: Former Edison Schools honcho Richard Barth is now president of KIPP schools and is married to Wendy Kopp, founder of Teach for America.

BTW, my in-laws live across the road (actually across the 405) from the Michael Milken "Comunity" School ("Community" if you're incredibly rich, perfect and Jewish). The school rejected my nephew because he has a learning disability, though -- Leapfrog yo' butt over to public school, kid.

Oops, that was my typo on "Community," not the Michael Milken school's.
