anyone have the history of the building on van ness that is to be SOTA someday?
I don't know the history in any depth, but I'm sure you could get a good answer if you ask the sfschools list

Yes, I have a little history, in a vague way. As reported to me: The building was designed by some historical figure who was then the official San Francisco city architect (and I don't have either the name or the date). But the big story about it was that the building was moved to its current site from several blocks away, pulled by donkeys, in an engineering feat that was international news.
I got all this from SOTA veterans at a PTSA meeting addressing SOTA's own history and future plans.
