Update on the E.R. Tayloer missing funds
Chron: School PTA funds may be missing -- district attorney investigating
Examiner: Parents: PTA’s $8K was stolen
The district is stepping in to cover the missing $16K, but it's not clear how or when this will happen. As Caroline notes on sfschools, the PTA carries insurance for these kinds of problems. Will this eventually figure into this settlement? Time will tell.
The other interesting news is that the former PTA president resigned and moved to Hayward after the audit was requested. Say what? I guess $16K ain't enough to buy the ticket to Rio...

I have no idea whether the former president is guilty as sin or not. But if I were her, I'd definitely have been on the phone with my lawyer after the Examiner, giving her name, described her resigning and moving to Hayward after the audit was requested. Correlation doesn't equal causation, as my logic-minded son likes to remind me.
Picture a trial: the prosecutor triumphantly accuses her of moving to Hayward (resigning is a given if she moved away, whether guilty or pure as the driven snow) in an attempt to flee the audit. The defense attorney retorts that she moved to Hayward for the reasons that urban families move to the wastelands of suburbia every day. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, how do you find?
(Seriously, to set the stage for that defense, they HAVE to demand that the Ex retract, as she presumably would also do in righteous indigation if she's innocent.)
