Give some love to our Summer of Love Challenge

The summer vacation is quickly drawing to a close. Our Summer of Love fundraising challenge on donorschoose.org will soon have to come to and end. We need your help to meet our goal. We don't need that much money to meet our goal. Just a few small donations from our readers will put us over the top.

Even though our challenge has been stalled for a month or more, many of our selected projects have continued to attract donations. Now four of the original projects are fully funded. So I've added a few new ones just to make sure any interested donor can find a worthy project. All of the selected projects are created by San Francisco teachers. Most projects, if not all, are in diverse, high poverty public schools.

Those of us whose kids have attended schools with lots of active parents and lots of middle class families who donate generously to the schools parent groups know what a difference those donations can make. I've tried to select projects that will help classrooms in schools that lack that kind of parental fundraising support. So go ahead and support the parents' group at your child's school. We all know our kids are our first priority. But if you can afford to give just a little bit more, donorschoose.org and our challenge offers a convenient, tax-deductable way to make the same kind of difference for other needy classrooms here in San Francisco.
