Samson Wong on the BOE race

Interesting AsianWeek article on the BOE race: Can They See Jane Run?

It seems that Jane Kim would be supported by the Eastside (i.e. Chinatown, Tenderloin) API residents. It's not so sure that she has much to offer the more affluent Westside API residents.

Hmmm, I remember the days when Samson Wong was a little more
accurate with his figures. The SFUSD had just over 56,000 kids last
year, not 58,000.

There are 15 candidates for BOE, not "20 plus".

And Jane Kim placed 7th last time around, but in a smaller field of
only 12 candidates. With just under 65,000 votes, she was still more
than 28,000 votes below Mark Sanchez, the fourth place finisher
(Eric Mar got about 95,000 votes, Norman Yee about 97,000, and Jill
Wynns about 101,000.)

But she did finish ahead of perennial candidate and male exotic
entertainer Starchild!

I'm sorry to see that Samson believes Kim to be a more credible
candidate than Bayard Fong, who, unlike Kim, actually has kids in
the SFUSD schools. He has served as PTSA President and also on the
SSC at Thurgood Marshall, a school which I believe he chose for his
child because he feels, as I do, that schools which have fallen on
hard times and suffer from poor public relations can be turned
around by a dedicated staff and involved parents. With new
leadership now in place at Marshall, I am looking forward to seeing
the recent success of Galileo and of Balboa replicated there too. I
wish Bayard, and the whole Thurgood Marshall community, good luck!

It's misleading to report Bayard Fong's ties with CAA without reporting his ties with the Chinese American Democratic Club. If CAA is progressive, CADC is conservative. Bayard understands parents' issues, has been active in the community, and is a consensus builder. I think he'd help bring good energy to the dysfunctional School Board.
