Another prediction of school closures on the horizon
The news that San Francisco’s public schools enrolled 1,000 fewer students this school year has put pressure on the district’s school board to consider school closures or mergers for the third consecutive year. Will the lame duck BOE, working with an interim Superintendent, have the will to take prompt action on this and devise and execute a consolidation plan? Commissioner Wynns has been quoted saying she thinks it is the right thing to do. It would be unfair to enrolling families, to the families in impacted schools, to push this issue into next year. Yet it would be a surprise to see this BOE act so decisively.
