About that school you were assigned to...

Now that the lottery has run its course, now that you know which school you're child has been assigned to, it's time once again to do some research. And SfSchools has some resources for you:If anyone has any ideas about other resources we could provide, or want information that is otherwise hard to find, please let us know and we'll see what we can do.

But the greatest resource for families in the enrollment process is ultimately each other. That is the genius of the SF K Files blog. The best way to know if your assignment is right for your child and your family is to seek others in the same situation, other families assigned to your school. The best way to do that will generally be by contacting parents at that school, either through PPS or directly through the school.

Yes, it has been a long process. Yes, for some families the results are unsettling, traumatic. But this is not the end of the road for those that are not satisfied. If there is anything we can do to help, speak up!

Ok, third year in a row we did not get one of our 7 choices and got Daniel Webster.

We are currently attending private school and now looking at homes in the burbs.

I have not only visited the school my child was assigned to, I volunteer in the class that my child would be enrolled in, and yes we will pass on it again.

This system is beyond a few glitches, it is in need of a complete revamping.

We left NYC to come to SF because we thought it was a better place to raise a family, I guess that is true if you want to send your kids to private school.

Why can't the city fix what is so obvious a real problem, our public school system.

Congrats to the lucky few that got a spot in one of their 7 choices, I don't happen to know any of those folks.

Whoa, that sounds horrible.

Do I infer that you have a 1st grader, and that each year you are assigned to Webster even though you've never chosen Webster?

Have you gone through the Round 2 process and not been offered any acceptable assingments? Have you checked in with any of your preferred schools at mid-year? Often the mid year transfers open up and are given to families known to the school administators.

Yes, this is too much work and too much stress. But patient persistence is sometimes required to get what you want.
